In 1995, BNAN (Boston Natural Areas Network) commenced the Greenways to Boston Harbor program. The plan was to work directly with local residents and notable public officials to build the Neponset River Greenway, and East Boston Greenway.
These landscape improving efforts were completed with the voluntary assistance of our citizen councils.
The vision was for each Greenway to preserve the scenic, natural, historic, cultural and recreational resources while encouraging compatible economic development and land use.
The Greenways traverse along an outstanding amount of neighborhoods, opening up the network natural scenic areas, trails and recreation opportunities to Boston’s inner city population.
