Description: Rockledge Urban Wild includes five parcels of Roxbury conglomerate outcrop that sit between Rockledge and Logan Streets. An exposed ridge of outcrop runs (from west to east near the center of the property creating the upper and lower terrace effect that is all too common in this area.
Four of the parcels of the Wild lay adjacent to Rockledge Street and make up the majority of the property. The first twenty feet in from Rockledge Street is maintained as a gravel parking and storage area by the neighbors. Here the outcrop ascends 15’ supporting a canopy of gray birch, black cherry, pin oak, and black locust trees. The fifth parcel sits adjacent to Logan Street.
Current Use: Rockledge Urban Wild is actively used by neighbors for parking and storage of equipment. Additionally, it is evident that neighbors are maintaining plantings and removing trash from the property.
History: Left un-built when the neighborhood was developed in 1928, this property was taken by the City of Boston in a tax foreclosure in 1962. Neighbors have used and cared for this site for many years, including planting flowers and using the site for parking.
