Bulk Purchases

Bulk Ordering Program

As a way to tap the collective purchasing power of community gardeners, City Natives became a distribution site for the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) Bulk Ordering Program in 2004. BNAN and the Community Garden Council facilitated this agreement in order to offer Boston’s community gardeners a variety of garden products at lowered costs. Allowing the community gardeners of Boston to purchase through BNAN’s membership in NOFA has helped many gardens acquire products that were previously unavailable to them.

Through the Bulk Order program community gardeners are able to order products such as soil amendments, cover crop seeds, potting soils, and seed potatoes in January. The products are delivered and available for pickup in Mattapan in March and April. This system is truly beneficial to the urban gardener as many of the products offered are not readily available or are cost prohibitive through local retail outlets in individual quantities.
