Beekeeping

Boston Natural Areas Network hosts two beekeeping programs annually as part of the Seed, Sow & Grow program series. Both programs last roughly one hour and are presented by beekeeper Mike Graney of Jamaica Plain. The programs take place at the Apiary at City Natives in Mattapan Square. Both are free and open to the public.

Bee-Keeping: Setting Up The Hive
Presenter: Mike Graney, Beekeeper
Site: City Natives, 30 Edgewater Drive, Mattapan
Date: Saturday, May 17, 2008, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., at the Spring Festival and Perennial Divide
A demonstration concerning the start of the beekeeper’s season. Topics will include planning for the season, beekeeping equipment, siting and construction of the hive and installation of mail ordered bees. A brief discussion of bee biology will be included in this session.

Bee-Keeping: Honey Harvest
Presenter: Mike Graney, Beekeeper

Date: Saturday, September 20, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Harvest Festival and Perennial Divide
Join Mike in the apiary for an informative conversation and hands-on demonstration concerning the end of the beekeeper’s season and the harvest and use of honey.
