Physical Description:
The Granite Avenue Ledge Urban Wild sits within the grounds of the Cedar Grove Cemetery. The wild is comprised of a mound of forested Roxbury Conglomerate outcrop that rises 25’ feet from Granite Avenue to the east. The property is fenced at Granite Avenue; access is limited to pedestrians within the cemetery. A mown roadway from within the cemetery leads to a locked gate exiting onto Granite Avenue. A mixed stand of trees grows within the wild shading Granite Avenue from the afternoon sun. The impressive canopy includes Sassafras, Basswood, Black Cherry, White and Red Oak, and Hackberry trees. The community is yielding to the impact of some exotic invasive species. These include Burning Bush, Norway Maple, and Lily of the Valley.
